How to stay Alert at Work
Being the type to work hard and play hard I so often find myself burning the candle at both ends. heading into work at half seven in the morning having only had about four hours sleep isn’t many people’s idea of fun - but if you find yourself in that position there are a few little tricks to try which might just take the edge off a pretty tough day!
The first thing I do when I wake up is have as much vitamin C as I can lay my hands on! Orange Juice is always good, failing that vitamin supplements are great too but better if you are taking them regularly. The next thing I do, which is horrible, is jump straight into a cold shower. Ok, it’s horrendous, but this is going to get you feeling as awake as you’re likely to feel all day. From this point on it’s just about keeping going and making the best of it!!
Obviously when you’re tired the most important thing is to keep your fluid levels up and make sure you avoid dehydration. Some hot drinks are diuretics and can have an adverse effect on dehydration but obviously the caffeine can give you a great short term boost. I think the best thing to do in this situation is make sure if you have a hot drink to have a glass of water too, and try to drink more water than you do hot caffeinated drinks! When you’re in the office and heading to the coffee machine make sure you make a pit stop at the water cooler too!
