There are so many health warnings thrown at you these days it’s hard what advice to take and what not to take. Well I am a fifty five year old man and and I’ve come this far in life with a pretty clean bill of health and I’m going to tell you how I’ve managed so far. Don’t take my word for it though - I offer no guarantees but this is just what works for me.

First of all I don’t smoke. It sounds obvious but that’s the first thing to strike off any list and the most deadly thing you can do. I’ve heard that everry cigarette cuts five minutes off your life - what a waste! Secondly, I DO drink. There are a few benefits to drinking in moderation - thinning of the blood becomes more and more important throughout life and a couple of pints achieve this without putting too much strain on your liver. I also try to have a few glasses of red wine a week - again a great blood thinning agent and there is also research which suggests that it can act as a defence against Alzheimers disease, and having witnessed someone’s downfall from this first hand it’s definitely something you would want to avoid. Thew third thing I try to do, and the most difficult of all for me - is avoid having too much sugar. A nice healthy diet with the Sugar cut out. I’m fifty five but I feel just how I did when I was thirty five!

These things all count but I think the most important thing of all - don’t worry too much about it! Just enjoy your life! Most days I walk into work, walk past the drinks dispenser and pour myself a nice glass of water. Ten minutes later I am up at the Hot drinks machine making myself a delicious coffee - I just don’t put any sugar in anymore!
